However, because of the unique character of the kecak, it is also a challenge and unique challenge for experienced musicians and singers. If you know how to rap, sing, speak a poem or a story, please let me know and we can see how to incorporate your skills into the kecak.

The Aesthetics of Garbage: LAB 3 @ Contemporary Arts Center (CAC)

NEW LOCATION: Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) Meryl Murman wonders if empathy is something that can be exercised through simulation? Are there ways of framing figures that give more agency to the performing body within the artifacts created from the figure’s labor? Which images become representational of human tragedy? And when is it/ isn't it ethical to embody someone else’s suffering?

Ultra Mongoloids

Shows at 2pm & 8pm! Join us for a dance theater performance by artist, Ryuta Dutah Iwashita Suderman. ULTRA MONGOLOIDS  explores the tension and fluidity of identity around race and ethnicity in the South. Inspired by the artist's recurring encounters with neighbors addressing him (a Japanese national) by saying, "Ni hao (hello in Chinese)," ULTRA MONGOLOIDS hovers between comfort and discomfort as the artist playfully renders racial and ethnic typology as more obscure and insignificant.

BE / WITH # 2 at Contemporary Arts Center (CAC)

NEW LOCATION >>> Contemporary Arts Center (CAC). BE / WITH is a performance series that invites artists with a practice of improvisation to come together for an impromptu dialogue. The audience will choose pairings of musicians with dancers and something will unfold, just once, never again to be experienced. BE / WITH is a response, a small gesture, an act of opening up instead of closing off in uncertain times, to the pressure to exist in isolation, and to experience art without intimacy of sharing space, community, and collaboration across disciplines and backgrounds.
