Gyrokinesis® Workshop with Master Trainer Trina Bordere

Join the Known Mass Vector Series for a special opportunity for an in-depth encounter with Gyrokinesis® led by a Master Trainer (this is an official Gyrokinesis® designation, yall!). Registration begins at 9:30am. Workshop lasts 2 hours. $50 workshop fee, with payment by cash, check, or Venmo. Participants should come in comfortable clothes that don't restrict range of motion; typically this class is done in bare feet. Bring yoga mat or thick towel. Dancers and movers of all sorts love Gyrokinesis®, but you don't have to be a dancer to do it - it's good for everybody's body. Makes your spine feel like butter. No prior experience necessary.

WHERE IS IT: Art Klub, a community art space. Free street parking (residential neighborhood), enter on Arts Street through the big driveway to the right of the red-and-white building. (It's magic on the inside.)

WHAT IS IT: The Gyrokinesis® Method was developed in the late 1970s by a principal dancer at Houston Ballet named Juliu Horvath while he recovered from a serious injury. The method provides an opportunity to unlock tension and stimulate balanced muscle support, using breath work as the facilitator. Similar to yoga and Pilates, which offer attention to breath with movement or postures, the Gyrokinesis® Method adds a focus on accessing the full spectrum of multi-dimensional "movement within a movement" that our bodies are capable of.

WHY SHOULD I TAKE THIS WORKSHOP: Typically, Gyrokinesis® classes are an hour long. This two-hour workshop will provide a deeper dive into the method and how to access it in your body. Trina Bordere began studying with Juliu Horvath, the founder of the method, in 2004; in 2015 he designated her as a Master Trainer of Gyrokinesis®. Trina is known to produce fast results because of her ability to identify where a blockage or disconnection exists. Her clear evaluation of the breath responses has also made her a sought-after breathing coach to vocal instructors and singers. Her passionate teaching style, vivid descriptions, and ability to explain sensations make her master class one of a kind.

ABOUT TRINA BORDERE: A New Orleans native, Trina began her classical training through the elite dance and vocal music programs at the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (NOCCA). Through her training at NOCCA, the Broadway Theatre Project, and the Ailey School, she developed dance technique, performance quality, and choreography skills that prepared her for a career as a performer, movement creator, and teacher. An injury at the age of 21 stalled her performance aspirations. After starting a family and a 5-year absence from dance, she sought rehabilitation through yoga and Pilates. She found these forms helpful in her recovery, but Trina credits the Gyrotonic® and Gyrokinesis® Methods with fully enabling her body to take on the challenges of various dance techniques and performance.

“Yoga was an introduction to conscious breathing to stimulate the systems and tissues of the body," Trina explains. "Pilates was an opportunity to apply breath work to movement. But the Gyrokinesis® Method is the full integration of stimulating the biological responses to move with ease in the ways that the body was designed to move. By using the multi-dimensional exercises with specific breath work, the Gyrokinesis® Method can help you reach the full potential of your movement.”
