Matt Spiegel's "A Premier Cover Band with some original songs"

While an Art Klub artist-in-residence, Matthew has been spending time in the electrical audio laboratory, mixing new concoctions. Tonight is his presentation of the experiments he’s been working on, including what he has come to call the end of an approach to music making that was based on the motivation to make the biggest and wildest music he could just after a time that he was down-and-out and the musical instruments he had were limited!

Seeing Somatic: Performances Across Body and Space

Join us for a wonderful evening of performance by Naomi Bennett, Greg Langner, and Montana Jean Smith. The performances are all based in the potential of physical body to explore issues of culture, gender, and the isolation of technology. The evening will include their most recent performance works: Un Clin du Corps, which explores the omnipresent screens that have invaded our daily life (with live music accompaniment by Hal Lambert and Mitchell Mobley); Cicadas, which disrupts the tensions we feel when we enter into unfamiliar cultural space; and Glance Backwards, which uses narrative, art and creative movement to explore gender identity in relation to space.

Be / With Instigation Fest

BE / WITH is a performance series that invites artists with a practice of improvisation to come together for an impromptu dialogue.  The audience will choose pairings of musicians with dancers and something will unfold, just once, never again to be experienced. BE / WITH is a response, a small gesture, an act of opening up instead of closing off in uncertain times, to the pressure to exist in isolation, and to experience art without intimacy of sharing space, community, and collaboration across disciplines and backgrounds.

Crescent City Baby: New Tunes and Familiar Faces

Join us for an hour-long concert showcase of new songs from "Crescent City Baby" - Art Klub resident composer Solon Snider's latest musical. Journey back to 1933 and take in the music of a world eerily reminiscent of our own: new technologies (radio) were emerging, new politics were shaking up peoples' daily lives, and people were forming radical new relationships with sexual and racial identity.

Familiar Cast - Opening Reception

The queer body takes center stage in the most common of places. Presenting themselves as visibly queer or not, Leitner looks into how his figures assert themselves within different spaces. From scenes of a soldier at boot camp to a customer ordering at a bakery, these continue to be battle grounds for people within the LGBTQ community. Showing these spaces and the queer body as they are shouldn’t be intriguing or political, but they continue to be.
