January 6 (With Erin Kilmurray) - Come to dance, play, sweat, try, fail, locomote, test your endurance, find your leg, fall off of your leg, slide around and f*ck it up however you like. The style + structure of these classes stem from Modern / Contemporary forms - specifically highlighting effort, athleticism, musicality and sensation while checking in and checking out of your foundational techniques. The room is designed to be a low-pressure environment to practice and play for any and all experienced dancers.
10:30am - 11:50am: Dance LAB - Technique
Focus on alignment, strength training and the key concepts for efficient, clear, and injury free dance movement. Kind of like a regular FUN DANCE CLASS that will at times get nerdy and really break things down.
12:00pm - 1:30pm: DANCE LAB - Movement Technique
Focus on experimentation and expansive dance practices that include improvisation, partner and group activities, tuning into self, others, and environment. Tools from somatics, gaga, tuning scores, forsythe improvisation, raves, martial arts and whatever your imagination can conjure.
Dance LAB is geared towards participants with training in dance or movement and is welcoming of differently abled bodies. If there is a concern or need you have, please feel free to get in touch in advance - shannonkstewart (at) gmail.com
